That’s completely ridiculous but my teacher refuse to reinstate the point she took off because she said 2500 words and not 2498 words. I could’ve just said that my was 2500 words and she would’ve never known the difference. With that in mind,1,000 typed words is about four pages. The average person types40 words per minute, so it would take about 30 minutes to finish 1,000 words of writing. And that's certainly not something I realized when I started writing this. I write down things that surprise me in notebooks. I never actually get around to reading them and using what I've written, but I do tend to reproduce the same thoughts later. If you look at an essay, you will see that it is made up of several paragraphs. It is easy to tell where a new paragraph begins because they are indented. If your indentation looks too large or small, it can be helpful to check this default. You notice a door that's ajar, and you open it and walk in to see what's inside. The sort of writing that attempts to persuade may be a valid form, but it's historically inaccurate to call it an essay. With the result that writing is made to seem boring and pointless. This essay was a huge deal this semester and I totally forgot about it until it was too late. If it weren't for you I would probably have had to miss my brother's wedding. Wow, I guess you know my mother better than I do ahah. I guess Im just not very good at describing people. This was the first time I had to do a classification essay and I was just at a loss. Essaytyper For example, in the question about ‘the demarcation problem’ above, there are assumptions that there is a single problem of demarcation, as well as a single best solution to that problem. Sometimes it’s enough to point out that these assumptions exist, and then to proceed with the essay by clarifying the definitions you’re using and the assumptions you’re working with. Sometimes you might think that the assumptions are fundamentally mistaken, or disguise a more important question. TheAlex Essay Writing Toolis a free app that you may find useful. Developed by the RLF, it takes you through all the stages of essay writing. ', their extracted main points should look very similar to the main points that you had in your plan. In the context of the question you’re answering, and the frame you’ve provided for your argument, why should I care about the point you’re making at this point in the essay? Once you’ve proven that your argument stands, I want to know the significance of it. You’ll hear this quite a lot, and you’ll probably wonder what on earth it means. It’s important to understand it, because it can be the key to getting a high mark. Every question has hidden assumptions behind it. As I've said before the most important thing in an essay is to come up with a clear line of argument and it's important to tell the reader about that right at the beginning. So set out your plan for the essay at the outset and then use the rest of the essay to actually build up your argument. All right, so my second major guideline for writing an essay is to make it clear where you are going.

Writing A Descriptive Essay

Writing A Descriptive Essay This is your chance to tie all of your main points together and go out with a bang. A good conclusion will address the main arguments of each body paragraph in a succinct way and thoroughly prove your thesis statement. Examples of scholarly sources include academic journals, peer-reviewed articles, textbooks, books by accredited authors, and NPR articles. Examples of unacceptable scholarly sources are magazine articles, open forum submissions, encyclopedia entries, and unverified online sources. If you’re looking for credible sources to use within your essay, check out Google Scholar. The most important step in writing an essay or research paper is to fully comprehend the essay question. This is where your topic is explained, described and argued. Often times, the topic of the essay will be assigned. If this is the case for you, don’t rush off to step number two. Here are the seven steps in the essay writing process and ample tools to help you succeed. Plus, in this day and age, there are technological tools to help you with just about anything â€" essay writing is no exception. As you will see below, we remark on why some students may not want cell phone usage policies. We will also suggest how to get around those concerns. Doing this provides the best possible support for your thesis because it shows you have taken every angle into consideration. 500 words give you more room to express your opinion. Yet, it is still short enough that it does not need footnotes and cited resources, usually. 500-word essays do not have to be exactly 500 words, but they should be as close as possible. The essay prompt may say “in under 500 words” or “in at least 500 words,” which would state whether 500 is the minimum or maximum word count. If that information is not specified, write as much as you need to comprehensively address the prompt without frivolous content. Another scholarship essay length you may encounter is 1,000 words. With a 1,000-word scholarship essay, you will need to cite sources and provide detailed references to support your claims. 1,000+ word essay prompts are often used for writing competitions, where you may be asked to create a fictional story. The extra length gives room for extra creativity, but it also requires more time to put the perfect piece together. Get all your thoughts on paper, and you can extend or shorten the essay during the editing process. The essay covered everything we wanted to without the need for extra words. If the prompt asked for at least 500 words, we would add another sentence to support one of the paragraphs. Since that was not a requirement though, we kept the essay as-is to avoid sounding wordy or repetitive. No matter which side of the argument you choose, you should acknowledge the other angle and negate those statements. Although all of those arguments have merit, our own thinking on the subject is both more old-fashioned and more radical. We think the essay form is still the best way for students to think hard on the page -- but we are not fans of formulae. Instead, we’re in favor of inquiry-based learning, evidence-rich analysis and process work. An essay can be wonderfully articulated and thought out, but will still result in a poor grade if it doesn’t adequately answer the prompt provided. In any case, the essay ends somewhere different from where it began. The reader has learned something, precisely because the author has. Something interesting has, ideally, taken place. In sum, the student essay falls into the same genre as the essays we ourselves write. 500-word scholarship essays offer more writing flexibility than 250-word essays. With a shorter word count, you are often forced to summarize long-winded thoughts into quick to-the-point snippets. During your scholarship applications, you may need to submit a 500-word essay answering a specific question. The theme of the essay can range from personal achievements to political controversies. This means you can adjust your writing style to fit the message of the prompt.

How To Write A Long Essay Most Students Can Agree That Long

How To Write A Long Essay Most Students Can Agree That Long… The following week, I ask students to read what they wrote to their groupmates. I encourage them to use the VWT's text-to-speech function to help them with their pronunciation. In this way, they get to practice a more target-like form of English in a meaningful and social way. Teachers should stop thinking that they have to compete with grammar checkers and view them as an assistive technology that can help reduce some of their correction load. If you are feeling afraid of losing your job to a grammar checker, you don't understand your job very well. Providing corrective feedback on errors may be a huge part of your workload, but ask your self this. Try to avoid generalisation and look out for generalised statements when proofreading. An obvious tip for a history essay is to write in the past tense. For details on what is counted and what is not, see the Word Counter page. If you write essays in your second language for high school or college, check your essay for embarrassing errors that a teacher would deduct points for. For more information about all of the advantages of using the Virtual Writing Tutor essay checker tools. There are IELTS and TOEFL rubrics that you can use to provide feedback on essay quality if you like. Check grammar, punctuation, spelling, paraphrasing, and vocabulary, or outline essays and write hypertext narratives. Watch out for mixed tenses when proofreading your work. Never refer to yourself personally, using phrases like “I think…” or “It is my contention…”. Each match is shown with a link to additional field-related readings, listenings, and glossaries to help you extend your field-related learning. To check your word count, copy-paste your text into the text area above and click Word Count. The word counter will also count your sentences and calculate your sentence length. This feature is useful if you are aiming for a more conversational style with a shorter average sentence length, or if you are aiming for a more academic style with longer sentences. If a machine could catch all the surface errors my students make on their writing, what other aspects of my students' writing would I want to spend more time on? Instead of thinking of writing as a grammar test, you will be able to see it as communication. The system checks to see which words in your text are related to the 47 fields of study on FieldRelated.com. You will get such a better grasp of how your essay sounds and comes across if you speak your words out loud. It will give you a great idea of how the essay sounds off paper and in the mind of a person reading it. Depending on the level, the characters live together as roommates or work together as colleagues within the collaborative narrative. Each week, I ask students to plan one episode of their story with the help of their groupmates. For homework, I ask them to write the current episode in the story, eliminate all avoidable errors using the Virtual Writing Tutor, and submit it to me for points. Writing that contains avoidable errors is penalized for not having applied the necessary revision strategies. Every essay must have an introduction, a body of several paragraphs and a conclusion. Your paragraphs should be well organised and follow a logical sequence. This page contains some general advice on writing a successful history essay. An essay is a piece of sustained writing in response to a question, topic or issue. Both my Actively Engaged on the Job and Actively Engaged at College textbooks involve collaborative narrative writing projects. Good history essays should adopt the perspective of an informed and objective third party. They should sound rational and factual â€" not like an individual expressing their opinion. Read your essay aloud, either to yourself or another person. Seek feedback and advice from a good writer or someone you trust .

Essay Writing Platform Market

Essay Writing Platform Market My theory is that having more cultural capital will change their taste in art, as they are able to understand the pieces differently to other people. When drawing on other authors it is important to understand the distinction between quoting and paraphrasing. The general rule of thumb is that you should paraphrase wherever possible, and quote only when necessary or if it clarifies the point you are making. That said, paraphrasing can be difficult without losing the inherit value of the argument presented. After editing your essay, go over it again closely to spot any minor errors, such as typos or formatting problems. There may be issues that you missed during your initial round of editing, and there could also be new typos or formatting issues if you made changes to the original draft. You may find it easier to spot these errors on a printout rather than on an electronic version of your essay. You might also end up reordering some of the content of the essay if you think that helps it flow better. You might have to cut material from your essay in some places and add new material in others. Professor, mentor, and friendâ€my role at Hult

Ive been a Global Professor of Entrepreneurship, Innovation Marketing at Hult International Business School for the past eight years. While I love the time I spend in the classroom with my students, I find the time spent outside of the classroom, mentoring and advising my students, equally or even more satisfying. I have long subscribed to the philosophy of mens et manus,  which is Latin for â€Å"minds and hands.†Ã‚   I believe that there is no effective way to teach entrepreneurship and marketing in a purely academic fashion—it requires ongoing, practical application for the skills to truly be learned. My most successful students understand this and aggressively seek out opportunities to learn, both inside the classroom and in the real world. What is mentorship? If you look up the word â€Å"mentor† in the dictionary, you’ll see that it is defined as an experienced and trusted advisor.  My approach to mentoring draws on my own years of experience as a serial tech entrepreneur across eight startups, board member, publically listed company Chief Marketing Officer, and McKinsey consultant. It’s a role I cherish. Im proud to serve as a trusted advisor for my students throughout their academic journey and beyond into their careers. Both on and off campus, I create events that complement and reinforce Hults practical curriculum, taking classroom learning into the real world. Such events have included Hackathons, design sprints, prototype scrambles, business challenges, startup competitions, and innovation tournaments, where Ive mentored groups of ambitious and talented students and helped them to foster truly ground-breaking ideas and new startup projects. And after graduation, its a wonderful honor to continue to support the success of my former students, whether thats offering professional advice or advising them on successfully launching their own business ventures. I have countless examples of Hult students and alumni that Ive worked with and continue to work with to help them advance their careers and realize their professional dreams. Im happy to share a few stories below. The Hult Prize Social Entrepreneurship Competition One of the most well-known of student business competitions is the globally renowned  $1M Hult Prize. Its the largest social entrepreneurship competition of its kind in the world, drawing over 50,000 global applicants. In 2013, I had the pleasure and the privilege of leading a diverse team of Hult students from the very earliest stages of the competition to the global finals in New York City at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting during the UN General Assembly Week. The team competed against five other schools in the global finals, presenting to luminaries like Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Chief Medical Correspondent at CNN. Along the way, we beat teams from MIT, Harvard, Stanford, University California Berkeley, and 45 other prestigious institutions of higher learning during the San Francisco regional competition. Me and the incredible Hult Prize team in New York To learn more about the journey that I took with Hult students Charles, Karl, Mandy, Niketa, and Sol, you can read an article about us in the Huffington Post. The Nestle SHIELD Skin Tech Hackathon In March of 2017, I was invited to be a keynote speaker at the  Nestle SHIELD Skin Tech Hackathon. I requested and was given the opportunity to bring 25 of my Hult Masters students with me to participate. The Hackathon was divided into four tracks, and Hult students participated in all of them, including Skin Aging, Skin Cancer, and Skin Health and Nutrition, Im pleased to say that one of our Hult teams, comprised of Kimber, Marianita, and Ana Maria, won the Skin Health and Nutrition track, which entitled them to a $5,000 prize for their idea. The winning team! If you want to find out more about the event, you can read all about the experience in my blog post Beyond the flipped classroom. Advising student-led startups I have advised countless Hult students on their startup ventures over the years. Some were born in my New Business Ventures MBA entrepreneurship course, others in my Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation courses, and still others in the annual Hult Business Challenge Entrepreneurship Track, where I serve as lead coach. The startups have ranged from food to fashion; cryptocurrency to blockchain; robotics to health tech and e-commerce. I’ll share just one example now. A Hult student named Filbert took my New Business Ventures MBA course in the Summer of 2017 in Boston. He was well-traveled, having matriculated on our London campus. Filbert began realizing that fashion-conscious people from his home country of Indonesia were under-served, as he experienced exciting new fashion-focused e-commerce platforms during his studies in both Boston and London. Like any good entrepreneur, Filbert decided to act on his insights. With mentoring and encouragement from me, he began working on his business idea in class. Soon after graduating, he brought his idea back to his home country and set up his fashion business in the capital city of Jakarta. He branded the company Apstrofi, which leverages technology to ensure a good fit. Filbert set up partnerships with hip, fashion-forward men’s and women’s brands that echo what he liked in London.   Just six months later, the company is well on its way to fulfilling Filbert’s vision. In conclusion It’s been a joy to support my very talented and ambitious students in realizing their professional dreams. Many of them are now moving into positions of real responsibility. In my next article, I’ll share the developments of their post-Hult careers, as they now work in innovation groups and start new growth businesses within their companies. It’s been a joy to support my very talented and ambitious students in realizing their professional dreams. 1522249973088 --> Hult offers a range of highly skills-focused and employability-driven business school programs including a range of MBA options and a comprehensive one year Masters in International Business. It went in parallel with what I was doing academically and after six months everything just clicked. . I went into the EMBA knowing I had nothing to lose and I’ve come out with everything. Geophagy (Eating Dirt) - A Traditional Practice

People around the world eat clay, dirt or other pieces of the lithosphere for a variety of reasons. Commonly, it is a traditional cultural activity which takes place during pregnancy, religious ceremonies, or as a remedy for disease. Most people who eat dirt live in Central Africa and the Southern United States. While it is a cultural practice, it also fills a physiological need for nutrients. African Geophagy In Africa, pregnant and lactating women are able to satisfy the very different nutritional needs of their bodies by eating clay. Often, the clay comes from favored clay pits and it is sold at market in a variety of sizes and with differing content of minerals. After purchase, the clays are stored in a belt-like cloth around the waist and eaten as desired and often without water. The cravings in pregnancy for a varied nutritional intake (during pregnancy, the body requires 20% more nutrients and 50% more during lactation) are solved by geophagy. The clay commonly ingested in Africa contains important nutrients such as  phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, copper, zinc, manganese, and iron. Spread to the U.S. The tradition of geophagy spread from Africa to the United States with slavery. A 1942 survey in Mississippi showed that at least 25 percent of the schoolchildren habitually ate earth. Adults, although not systematically surveyed, also consumed earth. A number of reasons were given: earth is good for you; it helps pregnant women; it tastes good; it is sour like a lemon; it tastes better if smoked in the chimney, and so on.* Unfortunately, many African-Americans who practice geophagy (or quasi-geophagy) are eating unhealthy material such as laundry starch, ashes, chalk and lead-paint chips because of psychological need. These materials have no nutritional benefits and can lead to intestinal problems and disease. The eating of inappropriate objects and material is known as pica. There are good sites for nutritional clay in the southern United States and sometimes family and friends will send care packages of good earth to expectant mothers in the north. Other Americans, such as the indigenous Pomo of Northern California used dirt in their diet -- they mixed it with ground acorn which neutralized the acid. * Hunter, John M. Examine the Effects of Globalisation on China - 1208 Words

Examine the effects of globalisation on China The process of globalisation in China has been a rapid one. China’s exponential growth since the fall of Mao has lead to increased international influence – with China now operating on an international scale. Economically globalisation began in 1978 following Deng Xiaoping’s Open Door policy. This opened up China to foreign investment and the international markets. This lead to an influx of transnational corporations, which was advantageous to Chinese companies who benefitted from technology transfer. However, the TNC’s moved to China for its cheap labour and manufacture, which presented an ethical dilemma for China. Leaders had to decide whether to compromise on a lack of investment and poor†¦show more content†¦Globalisation has lead to the development of SEZ’s along with Deng’s Open Door policy. Globalisation has given these SEZ’s both advantages and disadvantages and has lead to rapid economic growth but often compromised on the Chinese people. Socially, globalisation has both increased levels of Westernisation and increased development in the interior. Increased Westernisation has lead to both positive impacts with over 100 million Chinese have internet access, with 360 million owning a mobile phone, whilst 380 million own a TV. However, this can mean a loss of culture with the younger generation less willing to retain traditional practices like farming and rice planting, but instead want to move into the city and enjoy a â€Å"western-style† living. Globalisation has lead to both the benefits from Westernisation eg McDonald’s sponsoring the 2008 Olympics, but also the negatives including a loss of cultures and traditional Chinese practices. Development along the interior as also resulted from globalisation. As China has been put under pressure to reduce rural-urban inequality, it has begun development in rural areas. This has lead to the transformation of White Horse Village into a major city. This has meant that the old village was demolished and new high-rise buildings replaced rice paddies. During The 1500s To 1800s, The Strength And Stature Of A Essay Example For Students

During The 1500s To 1800s, The Strength And Stature Of A Essay During the 1500s to 1800s, the strength and stature of acountry depended upon its political power, which can be traced to howself-sufficient it was. Striving to be self-sufficient was whatnations sought after; dependency was not a characteristic of apowerful nation. Raw materials were the most required item tostrengthen the central government, and deter interactions, such astrade with other nations. The first country to introduce mercantilismin America was Spain. The spanish american colonies were not allowedto trade directly with Europe. Instead they had to funnel all of thesugar and tobacco, two common commdities of the new land, throughSpain. When this was done, heavy custom duties were imposed and thecentral government gained. Spanish American colonies were forced intoproviding precious metals and raw materials to the mother country. These colonies existed only to enrich spain, even if the economicpolicies adversly effected the well-being of the colonies. This gripcaused the central economy of Spain to grow at the expense of thecolonies. During the duration of this period, the 1500s through the1700s, mercantilism had a major effect on the economies in the newworld. English speaking colonies were effected by Englands policiesand acts. These policies and acts were means of controling the economyof the colonies in America and strengthen the central government ofEngland. Dutch traders had the commercial vessel market well corneredin the 1640s. It was very difficult for English colonies to competewith the Dutch. With owning 75 percent of Northern Europes vessels, being well-financed and experienced, the Dutch were going to stay incontrol of the market unless European Parliament intervined. In 1651the European parliament enacted the first Navigation Act to undercutthe Dutches domination. England was hoping that this Act would excludethe Dutch from trade with the English and force its own merchantmarine to grow. This act was the first attempt to enforcemerchantilism by England. The act proclaimed that all trade betweenFrance and English colonies, Europe and English colonies, and thecolonies with themselves must be conducted on an english ship(Kurland). The British were hoping that this would boost the economyand expand the mercant marine. The failure of this act was caused byinadequate machinery to enforce the law. The english colonies publiclydefied the act and kept on trading with the Dutch. The restoration ofCharles II brought about major changes in 1660. All of the acts of theCommonwealth Parliament, including the Navigation Act of 1651, wereconsidered illigal under his rule (Kurland). Charles II did not intendon doing away with the act, but revising it. The Navigation Act of1660 was a restatement of the 1651 act, but it also established a listof items including: tobacco, cotton, wool, and indi go, that couldntbe shipped outside of the British empire (Barck and Lefler). This Actmade the english colonies frusterated for they could get a higherprice for these items outside of the british empire. The NavigationAct worked as a disadvantage to the colonies, but helped the centraleconomy and government of the british by excluding such raw materialsfrom trade to other countries. The Staple Act of 1663 was an offshootof the Navigation Acts. It stated that all European goods bound forthe American colonies must first land at an english port and then bereshipped to America in English vessels (Kurland). The British wouldbenefit from this act by imposing custom duties on goods, which costwould be passed to the american consumer. The english merchants wouldprofit from handling, insurance, and shipping fees. This Act alsoprovided for a naval officer in all colonial ports to insure theupholding of the mercantile law. From the American stand point, theStaple Act meant higher prices and a b latant attempt of the British toexploit America for the benefit of the english merchants. There was noneed for the Staple Act to be passed. The Act served no other purposeother than the enrichment of the British people and strengthening ofthe central government. Another example of the British trying to exertcontrol over America was with the Molasses Act of 1733. This Actimposed a duty of nine pence per gallon on rum, six pence per gallonon molasses, and five shillings per hundredweight of sugar importedfrom French or Spanish colonies. The was no tax put on british rum, molasses, or sugar imported from British Colonies. The British, tryingto control the american colonies, were largely ineffective. The actwas vastly ignored by the Americans. The Americans were not going toobey a law passed by the english, when the english had no way ofenforcing it. The english colonies were pulling away from thealligence to Britain. The British wanted the colonies to build thepolitical power of Britain , without getting anything in return. TheBritish wanted to use up all of the resources and raw materials ofAmerica, without the colonies resisting. After the British recognizedthat the Molasses Act was ineffective, they amended it with the SugerAct (Morison and Commager). Bribing customs officals into taking 1 anda half pence per gallon not to notice the cargo being unloaded was howthe Molasses Act failed. To do away with this problem, the British cutthe tax by fifty percent and strickly enforced it. Now the colonieswere objecting to the decreased tax. Before, the tax was not collectedor enforced so the Americans were happy. Now that the tax wascollected the Americans were feeling the threat of British rule. TheBritish government was regarding the colonies as a source of revenue. .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 , .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 .postImageUrl , .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 , .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466:hover , .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466:visited , .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466:active { border:0!important; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466:active , .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466 .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u43e8c3aa06bf3e736bd5307df81fb466:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Renaissance man and Renaissance women EssayThe colonies also noticed how the money was being spent and objectedto it. The British talked of how they needed money to support troopsin America. The troops were not there to protect the colonies, but toenforce British rule. The troops were stationed at ports, not in theinterior where the threat of attack was the greatest. America existedfor the sole purpose of strengthening the central government ofEngland. Unlike the rest of the Acts passed for the improvement of thebritish government, the Stamp Act caused the biggest political storm. Everyone from small farmers to merchants were effected. The parliamentwanted the colonist to pay for some imperial expenses. To do this, parliament passed the Stamp Act in 1765. This law made it illigal topuchase any paper, newspapers, customs documents, various licenses, college diplomas, and numerous legal forms for recovering debts, buying land, and making wills without a stamp bought buy the British. The law enabled the British not only to generate revenues, but censorall materials going into the public. The British would simply notstamp any material, such as a newspaper, that were putting anycomments about the British that were bad. The American colonies didnot reciate this law at all. They protested it with a venganceclaiming, Taxation without representation is slavery. Theworking-classs approach to this problem is to riot, gather great mobsand burn things, and beat up the tax collectors. The upper-classs wayof handling this was to make reforms and go about changing this in acivilized manner. Everyone in the colonies could agree that the StampAct was a selfish law made by the British to control the media andaquire revenues at the expense of the colonies. During 1790 to 1795,mercantilism helped spark the economy of America under Hamiltonsauthority. Hamilton wanted all foreign debts, amounting to 11.7million, to be payed off in full (Kurland). This would establish avery high cred it rating with other nations and help the governmentcreate political power. Other debts the Hamilton required to be payedoff or assumed were the 40 million in Confederation war bonds and 28million in debts of individual states (kurland). For the good of thecreating a cash economy and strengthing the U.S. credit rating,Hamilton wanted to induce a Bank of the United States under theimplied powers clause. The system of banking he purposed was verysimilar to that of Englands. Founded in 1791, the Bank of the UnitedStates had the duties of financing the federal government during war, regulating credit, and producing sound currency. Hamilton also had theidea of making the bank privately owned, so it would run proficiently. This would give the federal government a backbone during times of waror emergencies and make it much more powerful. Hamilton also calledfor American self-sufficiency. The report on Manufactures of 1791,written by Hamilton, promoted tariffs on imports to protectmanufacturing and create national wealth. America was building itspolitical power by manipulating its economy. What the British wereonce doing to the colonies, the colonies were now doing to themselves. America was using the idea of mercantilism to run the country andbuild political power. In conclusion, the whole purpose for England todevelope and carry out the Acts they passed were to stay in control ofthe colonys economy and better their central government. The Britishtroops were not there to protect, but to carry out english laws. TheStamp Act was developed to control the media and legal documents sothe colonies wouldnt stray away and acquire their own system. TheNavigation Act was to stop the dominating Dutch from taking over thecommercial vessel industry and build up Englands merchant marine. TheMolasses and Sugar Acts were to make America pay for its so calledtroops and help British merchants. Britains mercantilistic ideas inthese Acts show their disregard for the new colonies and theexploitation of their resources. After the War for Independence,America took some mercantilistic ideas to begin building theirpolitical power and economy.
